SINGLE PHASE AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH WITH OVER CURRENT PROTECTION USING PIC16F877

 FEATURES:
*May add frequency sensing
  • Over current protection
  • Over voltage protection
  • Under voltage protection
Mode of Operation:
The default source of power is the utility supply. In a situation where the utility supply voltage is below 210V or above 270V the system would start the generator and cut of the utility supply, provided that the generator voltage is also within the specified range. In a case where both sources are out of range, no power would be supplied until one of them comes into the voltage range.

The current sensor monitors the current drawn. When the current goes above 10A, the system is cut off completely, a message is displayed instructing that the fault be cleared and the reset button press afterwards.

The LCD constantly displays the Voltages of both sources, the current drawn as well as the states of both sources(whether they are on or off)

THE VARIOUS PARTS

Voltage Sensor:

Simple step down and rectification is used

Current Sensing:

Current is sensed using an acs712 current sensor from allegro

Power Sources:

Display Unit and Relay Driver:

    1. you will need..

      1. WinZip or WinRAR to extract the files

      2. Proteus Virtual System Modelling (VSM) - for opening the .dsn file to simulate

      3. Great Cow BASIC (GCbasic) - to open and modify the .gcb program file and recompile if you so desire

---After compiling, the .hex file will be generated, which you would then load to the microcontroller in Proteus Virtual System Modelling (VSM) to run your simulation

The links to items numbers 2 and 3 can be found under the design toolz tab on this blog...

    2. hi sir, i had a problem during making of actual of this my transformer got spark and the plug burn out.. may i know what is the rating or specs of the transformer should i used? and how many power do i need? am i right 2 transformers and a 5V battery?

    3. Hello, sorry for that, I can remember I had a similar problem with a transformer, and the problem was that I got my terminal wrong so I was shorting both the input and the output. I Usually pull out a transformer from an old mobile charger(Haven't taken note of the ratings though but I think some deliver from 300mA to 1A which I think is enough). The load on the xformer is very small, and unless there is some short on the secondary, I don't think the power being draw should be enough to burn it out.....

  4. Hi Sir! I am making this type of project with a very little difference. Actually my project will just have to sense current and make the decision which source should be available to load. Both sources will be on at the same time. I am using PIC16F877A. Please help me.
